Abstract
It was found that water heating had a significant effect on quantitative and qualitative changes of the bacterioplankton in water in Konin lakes complex. Bacteria counts increased considerably and so did their metabolic activity. Maximal counts of heterotrophic microorganisms belonging to different physiological groups were observed in the whole vegetation season, since early spring (March) till late autumn (October). Availability of easily assimilable organic substrates, resulting from strong water pollution (allochthonic and autochthonous), stimulated the development of many bacteria decomposing organic substances.
